Chinese tradition has a rule that sounds strange until it works: when you sleep matters as much as how long. The body clock (子午流注, Zi Wu Liu Zhu) gives the night three shifts, and the deep-repair window — 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. — is the one modern evenings keep stealing.
The Sleep Reset is our one-week program built from that tradition: a fixed lights-out target, a 90-minute wind-down with real numbers, the evening foot soak done to exact temperatures, and a calm protocol for the 3 a.m. wake-up that doesn't involve staring at your phone. This page states plainly what's inside, who it's for, and who should be talking to a doctor instead.
What You'll Learn (the Full Syllabus)
- The night's two shifts. 1–3 a.m. is the Liver window — the tradition's deepest repair shift; 3–5 a.m. is the Lung window — lighter sleep by design. Why 3 a.m. wake-ups cluster where they do, and why the answer is usually the evening, not the night.
- The 11 p.m. rule, made workable. If midnight is your normal, you don't jump — you move bedtime 15 minutes earlier every 2–3 days until the target holds.
- The 90-minute wind-down. Kitchen closes 90 minutes before bed (no food, no alcohol), lights low after 9:30 p.m., phone charges outside the bedroom, worry list on paper every night.
- The foot soak, to exact numbers. Water at 40–42°C (104–108°F), ankles covered at minimum, 15–20 minutes, finished when a faint sweat appears on the back or forehead — about an hour before lights-out. Full manual: The Complete Foot Soak Guide.
- The 3 a.m. rescue protocol. Do not look at the clock. Stay lying down. Press Yongquan (涌泉), the hollow on the sole one-third down from the toes, slow circles. Count the exhale. If you're still clearly awake after about 20 minutes, get up, dim light, boring page, return sleepy.
- The honest boundary. Snoring with gasping, daytime sleep attacks, or wake-ups with panic — that's a sleep-clinic conversation, not a routine problem. See the box below.
The One-Week Plan (Print It, Tick It)
| Days | What to lock in |
|---|---|
| 1–2 | Kitchen closes 90 minutes before bed · alcohol-free · pick your fixed lights-out time |
| 1–7 | Fixed lights-out, every night · phone charges outside the bedroom |
| 1–7 | Foot soak on at least 5 of 7 nights (40–42°C (104-107.6°F), 15–20 min, ~1 hour before bed) |
| 1–7 | Worry list on paper each night — tomorrow's items out of your head and onto the page |
| 8+ | If midnight is still normal: bedtime 15 minutes earlier every 2–3 days, keep everything else |
How the Program Works
The plan itself is free — every piece is published on this site. What the program bundles:
- The free core guides: Why You Wake at 3 a.m. (body clock + full routine), The 11 p.m. Sleep Rule (why the first half of the night pays double), and the Foot Soak Manual (every number). Nothing held back.
- The evening toolkit: our pre-measured herbal foot soak packs (one pack, one basin, five minutes to steep) and the bedroom herbal sachet — the scent ritual the evening routine hangs on. Optional purchases, not requirements.
- The daily companion on Telegram: one small tip each day so week two doesn't collapse. Free. Join the channel →
Who This Is For
- You fall asleep fine but reliably pop awake between 1 and 5 a.m.
- Your evenings are one long screen scroll and your lights-out time is theoretical.
- You've tried "sleep hygiene" lists and wanted one plan with actual numbers — temperatures, minutes, times.
- You like the idea of a ritual (warm water, low light, paper list) more than another gadget.
Who Should See a Doctor First (Read This Whole Box)
- Loud snoring with gasping or pauses in breathing — possible sleep apnea; get assessed. No routine fixes apnea.
- Waking with panic, racing heart, or low mood that owns the night — anxiety and depression deserve real care; the wind-down can support treatment, not replace it.
- Pregnancy — adapt the soak first: under 40°C (104°F), 10 minutes or less, skip herbal additions; confirm with your prenatal provider.
- Diabetes, circulation disease, or numbness in the feet — thermometer-checked water at or below 40°C (104°F), 10 minutes max, doctor cleared first. Details in the soak guide's safety box.
- Chronic insomnia that steals whole nights for weeks — see a physician. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is the gold standard; this program is a companion for mild, situational nights, not a cure.
What It Is Not
No paid course, no gated PDF, no supplement to buy — the plan above is complete and free. The foot soak packs and sachet exist for people who want the ritual pre-measured, the way Chinese households buy them; the tradition itself runs fine on a plain basin and hot water.
