Spinach & Goji Berry Soup

Ingredients

  • Spinach 200g
  • Goji berries 15g
  • Ginger 2 slices
  • A pinch of salt

Method

  • Boil water, add ginger and goji berries, simmer 5 min
  • Add spinach, cook until just wilted (about 1 min)
  • Season with a pinch of salt
Wellness benefit:滋养肝血、明目润燥。春季每周2-3次。 / Nourishes Liver blood, supports eye health and moistens dryness. 2-3 times per week in spring.
Chrysanthemum & Cassia Seed Tea

Ingredients

  • Chrysanthemum 5g
  • Cassia seed 10g
  • Goji berries 5g (optional)

Method

  • Lightly toast cassia seeds until fragrant
  • Place all ingredients in a cup, steep with boiling water for 10 min
  • Can be re-steeped 2-3 times
Wellness benefit:清肝明目、疏散风热。春季易目赤头痛者尤宜。 / Clears Liver heat, supports vision, disperses wind-heat. Especially helpful for red eyes and headaches in spring.
Yam & Millet Porridge

Ingredients

  • Millet 80g
  • Fresh yam 100g (peeled and diced)
  • Red dates 5 (pitted)

Method

  • Rinse millet, dice yam, pit red dates
  • Add all ingredients with water, bring to boil then simmer 30 min
  • Cook until thick and millet is tender
Wellness benefit:健脾养胃、补气安神。四季皆宜,春季尤助肝脾调和。 / Strengthens Spleen and Stomach, nourishes Qi, calms the mind. Good all year; in spring, helps harmonize Liver and Spleen.

Mung Bean & Lily Bulb Soup

Ingredients

  • Mung beans 50g
  • Dried lily bulb 20g
  • Rock sugar to taste

Method

  • Soak mung beans 2 hours, rehydrate lily bulb
  • Add water, bring to boil, simmer 40 min until beans split
  • Add lily bulb, cook 10 min more, then add rock sugar
Wellness benefit:清热解毒、润肺安神。夏日消暑首选。 / Clears heat and toxin, moistens Lungs, calms the mind. Top choice for summer cooling.
Sour Plum Drink (酸梅汤)

Ingredients

  • Smoked plum 30g
  • Hawthorn 15g
  • Licorice root 5g
  • Dried tangerine peel 5g
  • Rock sugar to taste

Method

  • Rinse all ingredients, add 1500ml water, soak 30 min
  • Bring to boil, simmer 40 min
  • Add rock sugar, strain, cool; best chilled

Winter Melon & Coix Seed Soup

Ingredients

  • Winter melon 300g (with skin, diced)
  • Coix seed 30g
  • Ginger 3 slices

Method

  • Soak coix seeds 2 hours ahead
  • Add all ingredients with water, boil then simmer 40 min
  • Keep the melon skin on — it enhances fluid drainage
Wellness benefit:清热利湿、消暑消肿。夏日湿重、浮肿者尤宜。 / Clears heat, drains dampness, reduces swelling. Especially good for dampness and edema in summer.
Autumn dryness damages Lung moisture. Eat moistening foods — pear, lily bulb, white fungus, honey — to nourish from within.
Steamed Pear with Lily Bulb & Rock Sugar

Ingredients

  • Snow pear 1
  • Dried lily bulb 10g
  • Rock sugar 15g
  • A few goji berries

Method

  • Cut pear from top, scoop out the core
  • Fill with lily bulb, rock sugar, and goji berries
  • Replace the "lid", steam over water for 40 min

White Fungus & Lotus Seed Soup

Ingredients

  • White fungus 10g (soaked and torn into small pieces)
  • Lotus seeds 20g (core removed)
  • Red dates 5
  • Rock sugar to taste

Method

  • Soak white fungus in cold water 2 hours, tear into small pieces
  • Simmer white fungus with water 1 hour until gelatinous
  • Add lotus seeds and red dates, cook 30 min more, add rock sugar

Glehnia & Ophiopogon Tea

Ingredients

  • Glehnia root 10g
  • Ophiopogon root 10g
  • Solomon's seal 10g

Method

  • Rinse all ingredients, add 500ml water
  • Bring to boil, simmer 20 min
  • Drink as tea; can be re-brewed with more water
Wellness benefit:养阴润燥、生津止渴。口干咽燥、干咳少痰者尤宜。 / Nourishes Yin, moistens dryness, generates fluids. Especially good for dry mouth, throat, and dry cough.

Lamb Soup with Angelica & Ginger

Ingredients

  • Lamb 300g (cut and blanched)
  • Angelica root 10g
  • Ginger 30g (sliced)
  • Red dates 6, a pinch of salt

Method

  • Blanch lamb in cold water to remove odor, rinse
  • Add all ingredients with water, boil then simmer 1.5 hours
  • Season with salt

Black Sesame & Walnut Porridge

Ingredients

  • Black sesame 30g (toasted and ground)
  • Walnuts 30g (crushed)
  • Glutinous rice 50g
  • Rock sugar to taste

Method

  • Toast sesame seeds until fragrant, grind; crush walnuts
  • Cook rice porridge, add sesame and walnut when nearly done
  • Add rock sugar and stir

Longan & Red Date Tea

  • Dried longan 15g

Method

  • Pit red dates, add to pot with longan
  • Add 500ml water, boil then simmer 20 min
  • Add goji berries, cook 5 min, add brown sugar
